Carbonite, the Boston, Massachusetts-based data protection firm, said it was acquiring Webroot, the cybersecurity company using AI, for USD 8m in cash.

FUNDING
Databricks, the San Francisco, California-based data analytics firm using AI, said it raised USD 250m in a Series E led by Andreessen Horowitz. Microsoft also participated.
Ike, the San Francisco, California-based self-driving truck startup, said it raised USD 52m in a Series A from investors including Bain and Redpoint Ventures.
KenSci, the Seattle, Washington-based healthcare company using AI, said it raised USD 22m in a Series B led by Polaris Partners.

Amazon, the Seattle, Washington-based technology giant, said in a blog post that it supports what it calls appropriate legislation on the use of facial recognition software.
PEOPLE
Recall Studios, the New York City-based virtual and augmented reality company, said former Cirque du Solei executive Jordan Fiksenbaum was replacing Bradley Albert as president.
Recall acquired Evolution AI, an AI-based animation company, for USD 200m in stock in June last year. At the same time, Recall said it planned to list on the NYSE.
