The Department of Defense is looking to build a 21st century military staffed with a cadre of resident data scientists, engineers and artificial intelligence professionals. In testimony before a House subcommittee, leaders from the Pentagon's research wing discussed what it will take to maintain an edge in artificial intelligence. This takes the form of the recently established Joint Artificial Intelligence Center (JAIC), which currently has approximately 30 people assigned to it — a combination of uniformed and civilian personnel, Deasy said.
